Malaysian Dishes
Bawang Bukit Ikan Masin - A simple yet delicious dish made with wild spring onion, torch ginger, onion, garlic, salted fish, and red chili. There's a beautiful balance of aromatic flavors and natural sweetness from the fresh vegetables and the delicate saltiness from the dried fish. It has a broth that went well with steamed rice.
Inche Kabin - This dish is also known as Nyonya Style Fried Chicken. The chicken pieces were marinated in garlic juice, ginger juice, mixed spices, chili paste, and coconut milk, and are then fried until the marinade caramelizes, giving the chicken a dark brown coating. It's classic Malaysian comfort food at its best.
Udang Lemak Rebung - This is another classic Malaysian dish made of prawns and bamboo shoots cooked in coconut milk with turmeric, wild spring onion and red chili. The prawns were plump and juicy while the bamboo shoots had a contrasting crunchy texture. All the flavors of the dish were concentrated in the yellow broth which I recommend pouring over your steamed rice.
Ikan Bakar Sambal Kelapa - Grilled fresh water fish topped with sambal kelapa. It is served with a condiment made of grated young coconut mixed with dry chili, tamarind juice, palm sugar, and onion. The beautiful flavors of the sambal kelapa were infused into the fish making it very moist and flavorful. This dish also goes well with steamed rice.
Dendeng Berlado - A dish made of thinly sliced tenderloin beef seasoned with mixed spices and fried with pureed red chili, green chili, lime juice, and onion. The sauce is reduced until the natural sugar content is caramelized. It is different from rendang as this dish does not include coconut milk.
