Local Semi-Buffet Lunch at The Lobby Lounge, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore



The Local Semi-Buffet Lunch is one of the new dining concepts introduced by Shangri-La Hotel Singapore when it relaunched its newly renovated Lobby Lounge. It features authentic Singaporean hawker dishes prepared with premium ingredients and served nouvelle style, while keeping the original flavors, plus a spread of Peranakan dishes and desserts.

Diners enjoy unlimited servings of items from the buffet spread which includes traditional Peranakan dishes such as popiah and kuih pie tee. I have also seen some dim sum items from the bamboo steamer, and a soup dish which you can pair with your appetizers.



The buffet spread also includes a variety of Malay, Chinese and Peranakan hot dishes. Among the choices, the chicken curry and the shrimp in sambal sauce were my favorite. There's also steamed rice and fried rice which will go perfectly well with all the flavorful viands.

As part of the semi-buffet, guests can also choose one of the six heritage dishes feature on the a la carte menu. Choices include Bak Chor Mee, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Katong Laksa, Prawn Noodle Soup, Fish Head Bee Hoon Soup, Chili Crab and Mantou.



I ordered the Katong Laksa which had a very rich, thick and creamy sauce and was generously served with prawns and fishcakes. It had the right level of spiciness I love. It would have went well with otak-otak.

During my first visit in Singapore, I traveled all the way to Katong from Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore just to have a taste of this iconic Singaporean dish. I was very happy to learn that Shangri-La Hotel Singapore now serves this dish at the Lobby Lounge.

For dessert, an assortment of rice- and coconut-based local delicacies such as kueh dadar, onde onde, ang ku kueh, pulut hitam and many more. Finally, guests can finish off their meal with a serving of a drink of their choice such as coffee, tea, teh tarik or kopi tarik.



The Local Semi-Buffet Lunch is available from Monday to Friday (11:30am to 2:30pm) for S$38++ per person, and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at S$45++ per person.
