During my stay at The Valley Wing of Shangri-La Hotel Singapore last November 2016, I had the chance to try the complimentary afternoon tea. It is served at the wing's Champagne Bar located on the ground floor and next lobby. I arrived at the hotel right on time for the afternoon tea service so I decided to relax at the lobby first and enjoy my afternoon tea before going up to my room.

The Valley Wing is one of the three buildings that comprise Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, and among the three, the Valley Wing is the most exclusive and the most luxurious. The common areas of the wing are exclusive to Valley Wing guests, giving it a hotel-within-a-hotel feel. It is also the accommodation of choice of heads of states, top executives of multinational companies, and Hollywood stars.

To match the discerning taste of the Valley Wing guests, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore had the menu of its complimentary afternoon tea designed by Chef Christophe Moret of the two Michelin starred restaurant L’Abeille at Shangri-La Hotel Paris. Since the complimentary afternoon tea comes as a benefit of staying at The Valley Wing, the afternoon tea can't be availed by walk-in guests or by hotel guests staying at the other two wings.

The afternoon tea comes with scones, a selection of tea sandwiches and cakes. Guests also get to choose from a wide selection of tea and espresso based beverages, chilled fruit juices, as well as champagne. Yes, champagne is complimentary here at The Valley Wing and you can have unlimited servings of it. I, on the other hand, opted for caffe latte since I felt it was still too early for champagne.

Among the items I tried, it is the cakes that I enjoyed the most. The refined sweet taste of the cakes reminded me of my trip to Paris in 2015 where all the cakes I ate were delicious. What's also awesome about the afternoon tea at The Valley Wing is that all items can be replenished upon the guest's request.

More than anything else, it is the exclusivity of the whole experience which makes the afternoon tea at The Valley Wing very special. The lobby lounge is very spacious that guests can choose their own private spot. Guests who wish to enjoy the warm tropical weather in Singapore can seat at the outdoor partio. And because this is a Shangri-La Hotel, there's consistently high level of attention and personalized service given to guests. The afternoon tea is indeed one of the reasons to book your next staycation at The Valley Wing.
