An overnight stay at the Ocean Wing of Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu comes with a complimentary buffet breakfast for two persons either at Oceano Italian Restaurant (located in the Ocean Wing) or at Coffee Terrace (located in the Garden Wing).
While Oceano Italian Restaurant operates as a casual dining restaurant during lunch and dinner, Oceano Italian Restaurant also functions as an exclusive lounge serving breakfast to the resort's Ocean Wing guests.
Guests can choose to be seated in the air-conditioned main dining area or in the al-fresco dining area. The restaurant has more than enough staff to attend to all dining guests.
The buffet features continental breakfast items including breads and pastries, charcuterie, fresh fruits and salads, as well as an assortment of Asian and Western warm dishes.
There are also live cooking stations where guests can have omelette and noodle dishes prepared a la minute. You can either place your order at the live cooking station or have one of the staff place the order for you. Your ordered items will served on your table.
In addition to the buffet, dining guests can also choose from Oceano's a la carte breakfast menu. Guests can order more than one item from the menu, with choices such as 3-Egg White Omelette, Nasi Goren, Potato & Onion Frittata, Cheese Panini, and Oceano's Egggs Benedict. Free flowing brewed coffee and tea, as well as chilled fruit juices are also included.
I was thankful that my favorite Malaysian breakfast Nasi Lemak was part of the buffet spread. It instantly reminded me of my Breakfast at the Valley Wing of Shangri-La Hotel Singapore and the Nasi Lemak I had for Breakfast at J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore.
My Nasi Lemak consisted of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, and is then paired with chicken curry and garnished with slices of fresh cucumber, roasted peanuts and sambal sauce. I also had a serving of char kway teow on the side. I also had Roti which I paired with Dal Masala.
Fortunately, the breakfast at Oceano is until 11:00am. On my third and last day at the resort, I had my breakfast at 10:00am which gave me enough time in the morning to prepare my stuff. I finished at 11:00am, right on time for my scheduled transfer to the airport.
I heard that Coffee Terrace has a more extensive international buffet spread, but I still chose to have my breakfast at Oceano for three main reasons. First, it is conveniently located at Level 1 of the Ocean Wing where my room was also located. Second, I prefer a more relaxed and quiet setting for breakfast. And lastly, service at Oceano is more personalized, the staff addressed me by my name and they remember that I prefer teh tarik over coffee.
As the breakfast at Oceano is exclusive for Ocean Wing guests, the restaurant does not accept walk-in guests during breakfast. Oceano Italian Restaurant, on the other hand, can accommodate walk-in guests during lunch and dinner.
