The Rasa Junior Suite (formerly called Rasa Premier Room) is the highest among the six Rasa Wing room categories of Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang. The Rasa Junior Suite measures 62 square meters and offers the conveniences of a studio with the refinements of a suite.
The Rasa Junior Suite feels like two guestrooms combined into one bigger guestroom. The main living area is separated into two sections by a long table positioned in the middle. One side is the seating area while the other side is the sleeping area. I stayed in room 2508 during my visit.
The Rasa Junior Suite begins with a spacious foyer where the closet is also located. Clothes can be hanged inside the closet cabinet while drawer cabinets provide space for folded garments. Two pairs of bathrobes and two pairs of beach slippers, together with an iron and ironing board, are stored inside the closet cabinet. There's also an electronic safe big enough to fit a laptop.
The minibar serves as an extension of the wall that separates the foyer from the seating area. A sofa and a couch can seat up to four adults. The interior of the room employed a lot of warm colors and dark wood, giving it a legacy luxury and homey feel. Locally inspired accent pieces give the room a strong Malaysian character.
A spacious executive writing table serves as the divider between the seating area and the sleeping area of the room. An LCD TV is mounted on the wall, next to the writing-table and can be tilted to either direction. Local and international cable and satellite channels are available. Complimentary high-speed wifi connection is also available inside the room and in all common areas of the resort.
The sleeping area is furnished with a king bed and two bedside tables. Bedside light controls make it more convenient for guests to switch on or off the lights when desired. Consistent with other Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts properties, the beds here at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang allow for a very relaxing sleep. High thread-count sheets and comfortable pillows are provided.
The Rasa Junior Suite has a spacious private balcony with access doors from the seating area and from the sleeping area. Depending on the location, a Rasa Junior Suite may have a view of the pool or of the garden. A few units, just like the room where I stayed, enjoy views of both the pool and the garden. The Rasa Junior Suite is available in king-bed or twin-bed configuration.
Above is the view of the Rasa Wing pool area as seen from my room's balcony. The swimming pool is surrounded by lush gardens. Next to the swimming pool stands a centuries-old raintree. Chi, The Spa is also accessible from the swimming pool area.
The highlight of the Rasa Junior Suite is the oversized soaking tub located on the balcony. To make the bathing experience more memorable, guests staying in a Rasa Junior will enjoy a one-time complimentary specialty bath available in four scents: refining rose bath, rejuvenating ginger bath, refreshing juniper bath, and relaxing lavender bath.
To avail of the complimentary specialty bath, just call guest services at least 30 minutes before your preferred schedule. During bath time, you can either enjoy the view overlooking the garden or create privacy by drawing the shades down using the remote control.
After enjoying your bath, it's time to rinse yourself in the shower. The bathroom is equally spacious and luxuriously clad in marbles, complete with his-and-hers basins and a spacious marble countertop.
The walk-in shower is roomy and is fitted with a rainfall showerhead and a handheld showerhead. Guests staying in a Rasa Junior Suite are provided with Jasmine & Bergamote bath amenities from the La Collection de Grasse by L'Occitane en Provence.
While most Shangri-La properties provide these L'Occitane amenities in 30ml bottles, Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang provides the complete set in 50ml bottles. These are replenished every day by housekeeping.
