The Premier Sea View Room is the highest guestroom category of Kerry Hotel Hong Kong. With a total floor area of 52 square meters, the room offers an ultra-spacious living space, a rare feature in luxury hotels in Hong Kong. The interior features understated luxury design with touches of blue, grey and silver.
Upon entering the room, guests will be welcomed by sweeping views of Victoria Harbour. The floor-to-ceiling window bathes the whole room with natural light while the blue carpet brings in the tranquility of the calm waters of the harbor.
An open closet is located at the room's foyer. There is enough space for large size luggage and hanging space for clothes. Two pieces of bathrobes and two pairs of room slippers are provided. Iron and ironing board are stored in a vertical compartment next to the closet.
A platter of macarons and pralines adds a sweet touch to the welcome experience. What I thought was a stone sculpture, I was amazed to find out was actually an edible chocolate sculpture. It was too beautiful to be eaten!
On top of the standard welcome amenities, Gold Members of Shangri-La Golden Circle also receive a platter of fruits, while Jade Members and Diamond Members can choose up to three welcome amenities. Diamond Members also receive a complimentary bottle of red or white wine.
The Premier Sea View Room is located on the slightly curved side of the hotel tower with the side facing Victoria Harbour completely covered with glass windows. It is like watching a 24-hour view of the harbor on an IMAX Theater.
The living area is furnished with a lounger and a sofa chair. This is where I spent most of my afternoon admiring the harbor while watching the slower pace of Hong Kong city life at the promenade below.
The work station or dining area, depending on how you use this space, is furnished with a round glass top table and two parsons chairs. Kerry Hotel Hong Kong is the first Shangri-La property I stayed in which adapted the new hotel trend of replacing an executive writing desk with a dining table which I totally support because it promotes work-life balance to business travelers.
I was on a five day trip away from my day job and from time to time, I would try catch up with some work and reply to urgent emails. I did not encounter any problem connecting to our company's VPN and the internet speed was excellent. Working in this room didn't feel like one of those business trips, thankfully because I was actually on vacation.
Other room amenities include an electronic safe which is big enough to fit a laptop and other electronic gadgets such as cameras and tablets. There is also a Nespresso machine which you can use to make freshly brewed Espresso or Americano.
Being a Shangri-La property, guests are also provided with complimentary Zesta-branded tea bags. There is an electronic kettle which guests can use to boil water. Complimentary bottled water is also provided. Whenever I am in Hong Kong, I tend to prefer tea over coffee especially during the cold months of November to February.
Another cool benefit of staying at Kerry Hotel Hong Kong is that guests receive a one-time complimentary minibar. All the items in the mini-fridge are consumable free of charge. The benefit does not include hard liquor and wine.
The bed is consistent with the Shangri-La standard of quality: comfortable mattress and pillows, clean and fresh-smelling linens. Bedside lighting controls are conveniently oriented facing the bed.
Power outlets are neatly concealed in a sliding drawer next to the bed. This makes it very accessible and the design also allows for additional storage space for electronics. You can also notice that universal power outlets are also provided at the bedside table.
There is also a Bluetooth speaker on the bedside table. It also serves as an alarm clock. It looks small but the sound quality is fairly good. For better sound quality I suggest that you use the Screen Mirroring feature of the 43" flat-screen Smart TV. WiFi internet connection is available inside the room and the speed is quite excellent for streaming videos.
If you are a Hong Kong resident on a staycation at Kerry Hotel Hong Kong, you will be pleased to have plenty of movie channels to choose from, some are even in HD which is perfect for movie marathons with friends or family. If you have Netflix subscription, you can stream via the in-house WiFi and mirror your mobile phone to the Smart TV.
Lazy afternoons may mean an afternoon coffee or tea inside the room while catching up on the latest book you bought, or a casual afternoon chitchat with friends or family at the comfort and privacy of your room.
The in-room bathroom is equally spacious. It has a spacious countertop with a his and hers basin. A mirror covers the full width of the wall. Alcove lights make the bathroom well lit. The floor and the walls are covered with marbles.
There is a separate bathtub and walk-in shower. The shower area is very spacious and is fitted with a hand-held and a rainfall showerhead. Water pressure was excellent. Temperature of water is easy to regulate and temperature remain constant when showering. High quality towels were provided. They smell and feel fresh and new.
Signature Shangri-La Crispy Mint toiletries are provided in Kerry Hotel branded bottles. If you stayed in a Shangri-La hotel or resort before, you will smell this familiar scent every time you shower. It would be exciting if a new line of body and bath amenities would designed for the Kerry Hotel chain in the future.
My stay at Kerry Hotel Hong Kong was upgraded to include an access to the Club Lounge, and I learned that guests staying in the Club Room version of the Premier Sea View Room are provided with the Jasmine & Bergamot bath amenities from L'Occitane en Provence. If you are a fan of this L'Occitane brand of toiletries, make sure to book a Club Room.
The Premier Sea View Room faces east towards the direction of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island. This also means that the sun rises from this side. I was lucky to have clear weather during my three day stay in Hong Kong. There is no better way to start your day in Hong Kong than by waking up to a glorious sunrise as seen from your hotel room window.
