Deluxe Room at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok (2019)

Deluxe Room at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok

The Deluxe Room is the lead-in guestroom category of the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok. Measuring 50 square meters, this lead-in guestroom perfectly fits its classification as a luxury hotel accommodation. The interior has a very clean, bright and elegant design, with neutral earth colors and accents of antique brass.

In addition to the welcome drink I received upon check-in, I also got a bowl of mangosteen fruits as part of the welcome amenities. Mangosteens here in Thailand are a bit smaller compared to the ones we have in the Philippines, but these particular mangosteens I had in my room were sweeter and almost seedless.

During daytime, the room looks very dreamy because of wide curtain wall that allowed plenty of sunshine to brighten up the interior of the room. The air-conditioner worked perfectly to keep the indoor temperature below 20°C.

Located at the foot of the bed is a sofa which was my favorite spot to channel surf. The room has a 47-inch LED HD TV equipped with a sound bar. High speed wifi internet access is also available inside the room.

The workstation reminded me of the Premier Sea View Room at Kerry Hotel Hong Kong. Both hotels were designed by Hong Kong-based architect and interior designer, Andre Fu. This is perhaps the reason why had hat that feeling of familiarity.

What I like the most about the workstation is the smart design of the telephone rack beside it. It has a solid body with built-in universal power outlets. This makes charging your laptop and other gadgets very convenient.

What I also like about the room were the gentle curves integrated into the overall design of the room. These curves provide a sense of fluidity which is a perfect embodiment of the graciousness of the Thai people.

The Deluxe Room has a wooden personal bar which houses a mini refrigerator, an electronic kettle and a Nespresso coffee machine. The personal bar features premium liquor including some of the best local brands such as Chalong Bay and Iron Balls.

There was also a generous supply of complimentary drinking water stored inside the personal bar. Water is served in carton bottles which is an environmental friendly alternative to plastic bottles. The cap of the carton bottles however are still made of plastic, so I suggest that Waldorf Astoria Bangkok considers using glass bottles instead.

Being a coffee lover, it is such a delight for me when I stay in a hotel room with a Nespresso machine. Nothing beats the smell of freshly brewed espresso when you wake up in the morning, catching up on work in the afternoon, and channel surfing in the evening.

Tea lovers will definitely love these tea selection from Chaidim. This local Thai brand sources its tea leaves from the northern region of Thailand. In addition to black and green teas, there's also the lemongrass ginger tea flavor which was very aromatic and relaxing to the senses.

Similar to my stay at Waldorf Astoria Chengdu, I also had an amazing sleep experience here at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok. The signature Waldorf Astoria bed never failed to send me to deep slumber the moment my body sinks in the mattress and embraced by the fluffy down comforters.

Placed next to the bed is a control panel from which you can operate the in-room lights, curtains and air-conditioning. The do-not-disturb and make-up-room signs can also be activated or deactivated from the control panel.

Also next to the bed in a telephone and an alarm clock radio which lightning dock for Apple smartphones and tablets. Unfortunately, I am a Huawei phone user and I hoped that the alarm clock radio had Bluetooth connectivity. Power outlets are located under the bedside tables.

A sliding door leads to the walk-in closet which connects the bedroom to the bathroom. One the one end of the walk-in closet is a lavatory with a toilet fitted with a Japanese washlet.

The closet itself has plenty of space to hang clothes. In case your clothes get wrinkled in your luggage, there is an iron and ironing board to get rid of those unwanted folds. Bedroom slippers and bathrobes are also placed in the closet.

The Deluxe Room has a spa-inspired marble bathroom with a separate bathtub and walk-in shower. The floor to ceiling curtain wall bathes the whole space with abundant day light, making the interior look bright and airy.

The bathroom has a his and hers basin which makes the room perfect for couples. The bathroom, none the less, was spacious enough for two persons to move around comfortably. Opposite the basins is the deep-soaking bathtub with is crowned by an elegant metal artwork.

The walk-in shower is fitted with a hand-held and a rainfall shower-head. Water pressure was excellently strong. The Tuscan Soul Convivio body and bath amenities by Salvatore Ferragamo is the global standard by Waldorf Astoria.

Unfortunately, they ran out of supply of the Salvatore Ferragamo during my stay. As an alternative, they provided Mandarin Tea body and bath amenities by Shanghai Tang which I find equally good as the Salvatore Ferragamo.

Coming back to my room after dinner, turndown service has flawlessly prepared the room for bedtime with the drapes drawn, lighting set to dim, and the bed neatly turned down.

I absolutely had an outstanding stay in this Deluxe Room. It's luxurious design, smart layout and the subtle Thai elegance of the interior instantly made this one of my favorite hotel guestrooms.
