Liu Restaurant is the premier Chinese restaurant of Conrad Bangkok. Liu specializes in Cantonese cuisine and also features other regional Chinese cuisines such as Shanghainese, Sichuanese and Yunnanese. Liu is a popular choice among the local Thais and the Thai-Chinese for dim sum and other authentic Cantonese dishes.

While Liu is most popular for its all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch buffers, the restaurant also offers set lunches which features some of the specialty dishes of the restaurant as well as dishes using seasonal produce. During my stay at Conrad Bangkok, I was able to sample the Weekday Set Lunch of Liu.
Tieguanyin | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
The Weekday Set Lunch consists of six dishes starting off with dim sum, a salad, a soup, a main dish, a rice dish, and dessert. While waiting for my lunch to be served, I ordered for Tieguanyin a premium tea selection which I think will perfectly match this meal.
Dim Sum Selection | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
First to be served was the Dim Sum Selection which consists of five different dim sum including Steamed Minced Pork Dumpling (siu mai), Shanghainese Steamed Dumpling (xiao long bao), Steamed Fresh Shrimp Dumpling (har gao) with Squid Ink, Deep-fried Mango Shrimp Rolls, and Baked Duck Pie with Mushrooms. The dim sums were freshly made, and a sip of hot tea after every bite was pure pleasure.
Pan-fried Duck Breast with Assorted Vegetable Salad | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
Next to be served was the Pan-fried Duck Breast with Assorted Vegetable Salad. The duck was surprisingly moist and very tender. Although pan-fried, the dish was not greasy or oily at all. The leafy salad added vibrant color to the dish as well as a refreshing taste to the dish.
Double-boiled Chicken Soup with Black Mushrooms | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
As you are starting to get full, the next dish will definitely warm your tummy and aid digestion. The Double-boiled Chicken Soup with Black Mushrooms is a comforting soup dish full of wonderful aroma and healing taste of Chinese herbs. Placebo effect or not, I felt really good after finishing this bowl.
Steamed Greenland Halibut with Black Bean Sauce | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
The next dish, the Steamed Greenland Halibut with Black Bean Sauce, really got me curious. While waiting for it to be served, I did some googling and found out that Greenland halibut is a rare fish loved for its tender white meat. Contrary to its name, Greenland halibut is harvested from the deep waters of northern Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The fish alone makes this dish very special, and steaming it Cantonese style is the best way to enjoy its naturally sweet taste.
Wok-fried Rice with Barbecued Pork Belly and Chinese Olives | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
No Asian meal is complete without rice and the Wok-fried Rice with Barbecued Pork Belly and Chinese Olives here at Liu Restaurant was an absolute treat. The rice was very fragrant with well balanced sweetness and saltiness. The crispy bits fried pork belly gave pleasurable contrast to the delicate grains of rice.
Chilled Aloe Jelly with Assorted Fruits | Liu Restaurant, Conrad Bangkok |
Bringing this meal to a sweet ending was the Chilled Aloe Jelly with Assorted Fruits. Aloe jelly is known for its antioxidant properties, making it a healthier option for dessert. Chia seeds are also added, further boosting the antioxidant benefits of this dessert. It was an enjoyable dessert with a lightly sweet and refreshing taste.
Overall, I had an excellent dining experience here at Liu Restaurant. The Cantonese dishes are certainly authentic, comparable to the superior quality of Cantonese dishes served in high-end restaurants in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangzhou. The service was also outstanding, thanks to the natural hospitality of its Thai staff. I will definitely dine here again to try the restaurant's popular all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch buffet. I am also particularly curious to try the Thai-inspired dim sum and dishes on my next visit.
