Vasco's at Hilton Kuala Lumpur is one of the most recommended restaurants in Kuala Lumpur offering Ramadan Buffet. Served at sundown during the holy month of Ramadan, the buffet features classic Malay dishes as well as specialties from different regions of Malaysia.
I was able to experience the Ramadan Buffet at Vasco's when I stayed at Hilton Kuala Lumpur back in June 2019. This year's theme was Santapan Di Raja showcasing the royal cuisines of Malaysia's monarchies. Traditional Malay songs and dance performances also added to the festive atmosphere.
The highlight of the Ramadan Buffet was the Kambing Panggang Berempah Sangai (roasted whole lamb marinated in spices) paired with Nasi Briyani (Indian spiced rice). Below are some of the dishes I tried that evening.
My first plate included Nasi Kuning Kukus Diraja (yellow rice cooked with coconut and turmeric), Udang Masak Merah (spicy red prawns), Ayam Tandoori (chicken tandoori), Daging Masak Kerutup Dengan Kerisik (Kelantan-style beef curry), Kari Kambing (lamb curry), and Telur Rebus (hard-boiled egg).
My second plate consisted of Nasi Briyani (Indian spiced rice), Rojak Buah Mahsuri (sliced fruit and vegetable salad), Kambing Panggang Berempah Sangai (roasted whole lamb), Ayam Bakar Percik Buluh Perindu (bamboo grilled chicken), Ikan Bakar Wak Safri Si Kuda Kepang (Kuda Kepang-style grilled fish), Ketam Mini (fried crablets), Kari Kembang Kol (cauliflower curry).
I also sampled a variety of Malaysian rice cakes, including Pulut Tai Tai (blue glutinous rice cake), Kueh Bakar Pandan (baked pandan cake), Kueh Bingka Ubi (baked tapioca cake), Kueh Lapis (steamed layer cake), Kueh Loyang (honeycomb cookie), Kueh Dadar (rolled coconut crepe), and Kueh Bahulu (egg sponge cake).
