The Breakfast Buffet at SO Sofitel Bangkok is served daily from 6:30am to 10:30am at Red Oven, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant. Guests who booked a breakfast-inclusive package enjoy daily breakfast buffet for up to two persons. Guests with access to the Club Signature (executive lounge) can also choose to have the daily breakfast buffet at Red Oven.
Platinum-level members of Le Club AccorHotels staying at SO Sofitel Bangkok are accorded with complimentary access to the Club Signature as part of their elite member benefits. This also comes with complimentary breakfast which they can enjoy either at the buffet restaurant (Red Oven) or at the Club Signature.
The breakfast buffet spread at Red Oven includes continental items, bread and pastries, fresh fruits and salads, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Western hot dishes. There are also live cooking stations where guests can order egg dishes and noodle soup dishes. Free-flowing coffee, espresso, tea, and chilled fruit juices are also included in the buffet.
I started my breakfast with a hot bowl of Guay Teow Gai (chicken noodle soup) which I mixed with Luk Chin Gai (chicken balls) and Shumai (steamed pork and shrimp dumpling). You can adjust the flavor of the soup by adding fish sauce for saltiness and chili flakes for spiciness. To add more "Thainess", you can garnish it with coriander leaves and toasted garlic flakes.
Here are some items I tried from the Thai station of the buffet. I got the Thai Fried Rice (yummy!), a Thai-style Chicken Stew (non-spicy), Pad Krapow Moo (pork and holy basil stir-fry), and wedges of Salted Duck Egg (not too salty).
And of course, Thai breakfast is not complete without Kai Jiew (Thai omelet). Unfortunately, they added western-style omelet ingredients like bell peppers and onion. The taste was still okay, but I still prefer the classic Thai omelet made only with eggs and fish sauce.
Guests who do not have breakfast included in their room package, even guests who are not staying at the hotel, can also enjoy the breakfast buffet at Red Oven for THB 850++ per person.
