Youtiao (L) & Rice Porridge (R) | 2 on 988 Café Breakfast Buffet at Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich |
Whenever I am in China, I almost exclusively eat Chinese food during my stay. For breakfast, I always start with a bowl of Rice Porridge which I top with pork floss and Chinese parsley. Rice porridge is traditionally paired with Youtiao (油条) which is a type of deep-fried wheat cruller.
Noodle Soup Dish | 2 on 988 Café Breakfast Buffet at Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich |
Noodles, or mian (面) in Chinese, is the most popular breakfast dish in China. Here at 2 ON 988 Café, they have a live cooking station dedicated to noodles. I had egg noodles in chicken broth with chicken balls, beef balls, fish balls, mushrooms, broccoli, and bok choy (Chinese cabbage).

Here is my plate of Beef Chow Fun (干炒牛河) which is a stir-fried noodle dish made with flat rice noodles, beef, and beansprouts. I paired it with a Fried Egg (cooked Chinese style), Zongzi (粽子) a steamed sticky rice dumpling filled with pork, and Steamed Chinese Boccilli (kai-lan).
Pain au Chocolat (L) & Peach Danish (R) | 2 on 988 Café Breakfast Buffet at Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich |
Since I was staying in a Sofitel, I had to give the French pastries a try. I am glad to report that the Pain Au Chocolat and the Peach Danish I tried were very fluffy and moist on the inside and flaky and buttery on the outside.
Fresh Fruits | 2 on 988 Café Breakfast Buffet at Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich |
Finally, no meal is complete without Fresh Fruits. I had watermelon, pineapple, dragon fruit, and pomegranate. The ones I tried were very sweet and juicy.
