What's the Difference?
Below is a table that will help you decide whether you should choose the regular weekend buffet or the Sunday Lunch Buffet. A point to consider is that the lunch buffet runs for only three hours while the dinner buffet is four hours.
Buffet Offering | Regular Lunch Buffet Regular Dinner Buffet |
Sunday Lunch Buffet |
Seafood Station | shrimp, mussels, clams, and other seasonal produce | Alaskan king crab, oysters, lobsters |
Carving Station | Roast Pork or Chicken | Roast Beef |
Tempura | not included | prawn and vegetables |
Free-flowing Drinks | not included | alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks - or - non-alcoholic drinks only |
While the Sunday Lunch Buffet costs more, it also includes more premium items and free-flowing drinks (with Champagne!). Having said that, I find the Sunday Lunch Buffet a value for money choice.
Sunday Lunch Buffet Highlights
The Sunday Lunch Buffet features a wide array of food and beverage options, including premium Japanese and Western items and a delightful spread of dessert. The Sunday Lunch Buffet also includes free-flowing drinks. Below are the items served exclusively during the Sunday Lunch Buffet.
Lobsters - They served Maine Lobsters during my visit. I had them cold but you can have the lobsters grilled to your preference. The variety of lobster may change depending on the availability in the market.
Alaskan King Crab - This is one of the unique offerings here at Hotel Okura Manila. You can also have these cold or grilled. This should always be available during Sunday Lunch Buffet unless the market supply is disrupted. Otherwise, an equally premium substitute will be provided.
Oysters - Fresh oysters are also available during the Sunday Lunch Buffet. They served Irish Oysters during my visit. The variety may change depending on the availability in the market. You can have the oysters cold or have them grilled.
Tempura - Freshly cooked prawn tempura and vegetable tempura are served in batches to maintain quality. Prawn tempura will also be part of the Sunday Lunch Buffet while the variety of vegetable tempura is subject to availability.
Steak - The Sunday Lunch Buffet has a Carvery Counter offering premium steak served with seasonal vegetables. Roasted Prime Rib was offered during my visit. Do note that the type of steak will change every week.
Here is my generous slice of steak with red wine jus and mashed potato and cous cous salad on the side. The steak was tender and very flavorful. This is best paired with red wine.
Free-flowing Drinks - Only the Sunday Lunch Buffet includes free-flowing drinks, making it a great value for money. Choices include champagne, sake, house white and red wines, Japanese beers (Sapporo, Asahi, Kirin), and local beer (San Miguel).
They served Champagne Duval-Leroy Brut Reserve during my visit. I had about four glasses of this which I mostly paired with seafood. Champagne Duval-Leroy Brut Reserve sells for around ₱3,000++ online. Do note that the brand of champagne is subject to change.
Fresh coconut juice in the shell is also included in the Sunday Lunch Buffet. Free-flowing chilled juices, sodas (including Coke Zero), coffees (including cappuccino, latte, etc), and teas are also included.
Signature Cocktails - Yawaragi has created signature cocktails exclusively available during the Sunday Lunch Buffet. These are prepared and served tableside through a bar cart, and yes you can order unlimited servings of these cocktails.
Japanese Whisky Ginger Highball - This is their Japanese-inspired version of the Whiskey Highball which they made using Nikka Pure Malt Whiskey and ginger ale. This was easy to drink and very refreshing.
Tokyo Mary - This is their Japanese-inspired version of the classic Bloody Mary which they mixed with Hakushika Chokara sake. The cocktail was mildly spicy with a sweet aftertaste, making it an excellent pair for savory dishes.
Japanese Specialty Dishes
In addition to the items mentioned above, here are the other Japanese dishes available during the Sunday Lunch Buffet. Many of the these dishes are also included in the regular weekend buffet, but the menu is subject to change every week.
Yakitori Live Station - Serves a selection of marinated meats and poultry skewers grilled on the robatayaki counter. These are best paired with beer or sake.
Sushi & Sashimi Counter - Hand-sliced sashimi of chilled A-grade seafood freshly flown from overseas, plus a selection of homemade hosomaki & futomaki rolls.
Yose Nabe - Japanese hot pot with salmon, chicken, and shrimp
Pork Katsu - pork loin, breaded, and deep-fried until golden brown
Grilled Tuna Teriyaki - slices of tuna marinated with teriyaki sauce and then grilled until the sauce caramelize
Western Specialty Dishes
The Kisetsu Weekend Buffet also includes Western dishes from appetizers, salads, and hot dishes. Here are some of the items served during my visit. As you already know, dishes are subject to menu rotation.
Dessert
The dessert station offers a wide variety of cakes, pralines, and other confections. Some of the cakes served during my visit were the Pistachio Opera Cake (in photo), Black Sesame Cake, Cherry & Dark Chocolate Cake, and the Irish Profiterole Cake. There's also a spread of pavlova and my favorite was the lavender pavlova.
