Highlights & Must-Try Dishes

Below are the Malaysian dishes that you must try. Do note that some of the dishes here are part of a rotational menu, and may not be available on your day of visit. Majority of these dishes are spicy.

  • Nasi Lemak - this is Malaysia's unofficial national dish of coconut rice, egg, anchovies, peanuts, cucumber, and sambal sauce
  • Curry Laksa - Malaysia's iconic laksa with noodles and assorted ingredients, this is spicy
  • Rojak - a salad of assorted fruits and vegetables with rojak sauce
  • Chicken Satay - aromatic and flavorful, best with peanut sauce
  • Rendang - can be beef or chicken slow-cooked in coconut milk, best paired with nasi lemak, this is spicy
  • Prawn Sambal - prawns cooked in sambal sauce, best paired with nasi lemak, this is spicy
  • Teh Tarik - this is Malaysia's unofficial national drink, this tea-based beverage is served here freshly "pulled"
  • Malaysian Desserts - wide assortment served, top picks are onde-onde, kueh seri muka, and bubur pulut hitam
  • Jungle Bird Mocktails - these are signature mocktails by Hilton Kuala Lumpur's Aviary Bar

Do note that all Malaysian dishes served do not contain pork or lard.

Sample Plates

Here is my bowl of Rojak Salad. It had cucumber, guava, jicama (singkamas), pineapple, papaya, and green mango. I then topped it with rojak sauce and peanuts. This is not too spicy. You can add freshly chopped bird's eye chili if you prefer it spicy. Mix everything before you eat, and enjoy!

Here is my bowl of Curry Laksa. The taste is super authentic, especially the broth. It tasted exactly the same as the Curry Laksa served at Hilton Kuala Lumpur. I had my laksa with lots of shrimp, tofu, green beans, and bean sprouts. There's also half a boiled egg. It was spicy just the way I love it.

Here is my plate of Chicken Satay with peanut sauce and sambal sauce. I had it with Ketupat (rice cooked in woven palm leaf pockets), cucumber, and onions. This plate reminds me of Hari Raya, or the celebration of Eid'l Fitr in Malaysia.

Here is my plate of rice plus assorted Malaysian dishes. I had the Kari Kambing Dengan Kentang (Lamb Curry with Potato), Beef Rendang, and the Ayam Masak Merah (Braised Chicken with Tomato and Chili Paste). The three dishes were full of flavor and aroma and the meat was super tender. Of course, they were spicy too.

No Malaysian dish is complete without Teh Tarik. It was a pleasant surprise to see them making fresh teh tarik next to your table. The taste was very comforting and will instantly transport you to Malaysia. I also had some local Malaysian desserts. I particularly enjoyed the onde-onde (glutinous rice ball) and the bubur pulut hitam (black glutinous rice porridge with coconut milk and palm sugar).
