Dining Venue
Omang Omang Restaurant is designed like a Balinese house compound where individual pavilions are connected by footpaths. The restaurant's main pavilion houses the open kitchen and the main dining area. There are round and long tables here that can host solo diners, couples, and groups.
The restaurant also has smaller pavilions surrounded by lily ponds. Most of the dining spaces are open-air but there are also air-conditioned dining pavilions that are ideal for the summer months. Traditional Balinese music is played in the morning, setting a really relaxing mood for breakfast.
Omang Omang Restaurant also has an alfresco dining area located near the resort's swimming pools. This is the most popular dining venue in the morning for most of the guests. This is also an excellent spot to dine in the afternoon.
Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
I dined here at Omang Omang Restaurant during my recent stay at Hyatt Regency Bali. I had a good mix of vegetable, meat, and seafood dishes. All tasted good and flavorful. I also got the chance to chat about the food with Chef Prima Udayana, Chef de Cuisine at Hyatt Regency Bali.
Here are my recommended dishes here at Omang Omang Restaurant. I will update this article with more dishes when I visit again on my next trip to Bali.
While waiting for their meals, diners here at Omang Omang Restaurant are served with krupuk, a general term used to refer to Indonesian crackers. During my visit, they served me krupuk puli, a type of cracker made with rice.
The Rujak Jeruk Bali is a pomelo salad that also includes star fruit, pineapple, and jicama. It has a sweet, salty, and mildly spicy dressing. The salad is finally sprinkled with peanuts for contrast in texture.
The Nasi Goreng Kambing is an Indonesian fried rice dish cooked with lamb meat and madras curry. The dish is topped with crispy shallot, garlic, and scallions. It also comes with sweet pickled vegetables on the side. This nasi goreng is not spicy, but you can request a spicy version or just add spicy sambal.
Udang Woku is a Manadonese dish from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is made with prawns cooked in a spice paste of chopped shallot, garlic, candlenut, ginger, turmeric, red chili pepper, and tomato, plus aromatics such as turmeric leaf, lemon basil leaf, and lemongrass. The dish was very flavorful and mildly spicy.
Iga Bakar Konro is a dish from Makassar in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Omang Omang Restaurant uses US Prime Beef Short Rib for this dish. The ribs are braised in a broth with kluwak, an Indonesian ingredient that gives the beef a nutty and earthy taste. The ribs are then grilled and served with peanut sauce. The beef was super tender and would fall off the bone. The taste was nutty, smokey, and mildly sweet.
The Lemongrass Crème Brulee is a simple creme brulee infused with the flavor of lemongrass. What makes it special is the compote topping made with strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries harvested from Bedugul, a mountain lake area in north-central Bali.
