Popinjays Set Lunch
The Popinjays Set Lunch is available daily and guests can choose between a 3-course set lunch (HKD 548++) and a 4-course set lunch (HKD 598++). Below are dishes I tried last November 2023 (see menu). The menu changes every season.
For my appetizer, I chose the Pan Fried Scallops served with cauliflower slices, crispy guanciale, and salicornia. The scallops were plump and juicy and tasted sweet and fresh. The cauliflower and salicornia added a contrasting crunchy texture.
For my middle course, I opted for the Champagne Risotto which is served Canadian lobster. The risotto was creamy and mildly sweet which complements the savory taste of the lobster. The zesty taste of the lemon also brightened up the flavor of the dish.
For my main course, I ordered the Grilled Lamb Chop served with roasted asparagus, burnt shallot, and green peppercorn sauce. The meat was moist and flavorful and went well with the roasted asparagus
For dessert, I had the Popinjays Tiramisu, the restaurant's version of this Italian dessert. It consists of two components: one is the ristretto & mascarpone cream with crunchy hazelnut while the other is a portion of espresso ice cream.
Cocktails at Popinjays
Skylark Jay (HKD 168++) - Martell Noblige cognac, elderflower cordial, Aperol, pineapple juice, citrus, garnished with star anise and sprinkled with gold powder. Fragrant, bright, fruity sweet, and woody-spicy.
Niccolo Negroni (HKD 120++) - Tanqueray gin, Campari, Mancino Vermouth di Torino Rosso Amaranto with cinnamon garnish. I am a fan of Negroni and the aroma of the cinnamon elevates every sip of this drink.
