Recommended Dishes
We had lunch at Izakaya by OKU during our stay at The Apurva Kempinski Bali. Whether you are dining alon, as a couple or as a group, we personally recommend that you try their Bento special menu, with each set consisting of a donburi as main dish, miso soup, four side dishes, plus one dessert dish.
The OKU Signature Bento includes Truffle Gyu Don as main dish with rice topped with roasted Australian wagyu, truffle sauce, and onsen egg. Side dishes include Karasumi Pasta Ikura (cold angel hair pasta, ikura, bottarga, truffle kombu sauce), Chawan Mushi (Japanese egg custard, prawn, chicken, shimeji), Oku Aburi (torched salmon, spicy togarashi mayonnaise, ikura and avruga caviar), Oku Karaage (crispy black chicken thigh, ichi-mi powder, balsamic teriyaki), and Mizu (water mochi, crunchy kinako, anmitsu sauce) for dessert.
The Seasonal Bento features Unatama Don as main dish of rice topped with grilled water eel, sansho, kizami wasabi, and kinshi tamago. Side dishes include Salmon Carpacio (thin slice salmon, wasabi cream, shiso leaf, onion garlic ponzu sauce), Inari Sushi (Japanese sweet tofu, kani salad, ikura), Kushiage (Japanese sea scallop, mentaiko, truffle, ume mayonnaise, tonkatsu), Chicken Saikyoyaki (miso marinated chicken, salad), and Matcha Raspberry (red bean, green tea dacquoise, white chocolate crumble) for dessert.
The Premium Bento is highlighted by its main dish, the Rosini Gyu Don with rice topped with pan seared wagyu m7+, foie gras, truffle sauce, and yakimeshi. Side dishes include Honmaguro Chutoro (slice of blue fin tuna), Kasutera Tamago (tamago, dashi, hotate, yum), Saku Uni (Japanese sea urchin, chutoro, kisami wasabi, shiso jelly, crispy nori), Wagyu Sando (Australian wagyu m9+, foie gras, bread, wasabi, truffle mayonnaise), and Ichigo Daifoku (strawberry, red bean ice cream) for dessert.
OKU Karaage is one of the side dishes served with the OKU Signature Bento. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered an additional serving from the a la carte menu. These are actually chicken karaage coated with squid ink batter, topped with balsamic teriyaki sauce and ichi-mi powder.
